K-P-Rao Layout

K P Rao Layout is the layout now famously known among Kannada users as KaGaPa Layout or Nudi Layout. '
K P Rao Layout is also presently the standard layout used by the Karnataka Government as Nudi.
The layout for US standard Keyboard was initially designed by Professor K P Rao (for Sediapu, arguably one of the first Kannada specific software) and later adapted in the Nudi software by Kannada GaNaka Parishath. 'KaGaPa Layout is a layout based on K P Rao layout, with slight modifications.

On GNU/Linux
Pramod's XKB add-on
Pramod had written an XKB keymap adapting K. P. Rao Layout in 2003. It was released in GPL. Since then it has undergone changes in several way and is in circulation in different versions.
It is still tad bit buggy with few exceptions to the standard K P Rao Layout. The add-on was meant for use with Unicode fonts.
Linek
Linek is a script written for GNU/Linux to key in using K.P. Rao/Nudi Layout with a difference that it lets you use the older fonts (ASCII) on GNU/Linux (provided that you've installed them). A font is shipped with the script although.

SCIM
The default .mim file for K.P. Rao Layout (KGP Layout) that comes with SCIM is buggy. Professor M A Sridhar of Mysore University has a re-written version of the file. You can download it from here.
